The obvious question is: “what is the cost?”.
It all depends on what options you desire. We have certified contractors building a MAS™ system structure with insulation values equivalent to R60, with basic electrical and plumbing for well under $25 (USD) per sq. ft. before interior partitions, etc.
A simple 570 sq. ft. MAS™ structure (MAS-570™) configured to provide basic housing in 3rd world countries can be built for less than $10,000 (USD) and it will be as good as new in 200 years!
In the United States an above average, 3 bedroom (or 4 bedroom), 2 bathroom, MAS-1300™ with tile, carpeting, upgraded kitchen is selling for between $53,000 and $86,000 depending on options, land costs, local labor rates and market conditions. This same product in a 2 bedroom 1 bath, MAS-570™ is selling for between $28,000 and $43,000. Thus you get a 20 year warranted house with virtually NO maintenance, that is natural disaster proof, architecturally stunning, with a life expectancy of centuries, that is highly efficient, at a price FAR FAR less than the vast majority of new or used homes on the market.
The high occupancy community/compound version of the MAS-570™ can be built for approximately $500 (USD) per occupant. That is $2.50 (USD) per person per year, which is less than ONE United States PENNY per day. The reality is that these MAS™ structures will last far in excess of 200 years, making the cost per person significantly less.

The MAS™ system WILL be the new standard for global housing and that is EXACTLY what Southern Utah University set out to achieve.
